Maris is a yoga teacher, television host, and commercial model. She is originally from the Philippines where she worked as a professional actor for TV, film, and theater for more than a decade. She discovered yoga in 2003 while still living in Manila and it transformed her life in many unexpected ways. “Starting a yoga practice and radically changing my diet and habits were among the best decisions I’ve made in my life. As I practiced over the years, I learned how to nurture myself, to listen to my body, and to be simply grateful for whatever the present moment brings. Yoga started out as a physical activity and slowly evolved into a deeper practice that supports my psychological and spiritual growth.”
In 2010, Maris moved to the U.S. She then started on the path to becoming a yoga teacher. Maris completed her 200-hour teacher training in 2011 in Kansas City. Since becoming a certified teacher, she has continued her own yoga education and has taught thousands of classes in yoga studios and other venues all around town. Maris teaches a mindful yoga flow that students find both challenging and relaxing with plenty of room for their own exploration. It brings her great joy to share yoga with others and to witness them enjoying the many benefits of this wonderful practice.
When she’s not busy teaching yoga or running Yoga Upload, she works as an actor and commercial/print model. For 3 years, she was also the co-host of Arts Upload, a weekly TV show on KCPT-PBS (Kansas City Public Television) about local artists and arts events. Maris is currently based in Kansas City, Missouri with her husband David and their sons Kieran and Liam.
